Delete Direct Messages
If you want to delete only a few messages, you'll need to manually remove them one by one. Here's how:
On Mobile:
-
Tap and hold the message you want to delete.
-
Select "Delete Message".
On Windows/MacOS:
-
Hover over the message you want to delete.
-
Press the Shift button and click the delete icon.
Tip: Holding the Shift button skips the confirmation dialog, speeding up the process.
Hiding a Direct Message Chat:
If you want to clean up your DM list without deleting messages:
-
Hover over the chat name you want to hide.
-
Click the "X" button.
Note: Hiding a chat does not delete it. The messages remain and can be accessed again by searching for the user's name in Discord.
Unfortunately, Discord does not allow deleting an entire DM history that affects both users due to privacy and security policies.
Delete Messages on a Discord Server
Manual Deletion:
-
Locate the message on the server.
-
Right-click the message or click the three-dot icon.
-
Select "Delete Message" (you can also use the Shift + Delete method for faster removal).
Alternatively, to delete all messages in a channel:
-
Right-click the text channel you want to delete.
-
Click "Delete Channel" to remove all messages.
Using a Discord Bot:
Bulk deletion is possible with bots like Discord ClearChat Bot. Follow these steps:
-
Search for "Discord ClearChat Bot" in your browser.
-
Click "Add App" to add the bot to your server.
-
Assign the bot a role with the "Manage Channels" permission.
-
Use the bot command /clearall to delete messages in bulk.
Note: Bots cannot delete messages from server chats or voice channel chats. For those, manual deletion is required.
Key Permissions Required:
You can delete messages or channels even if you're not the server owner, as long as you have permissions like "Manage Channels" or "Administrator" granted by the server owner.
With these methods, you can maintain a clean and organized Discord environment efficiently.
