How to delete correspondence in VK

Ways to delete messages and dialogs in VKontakte

Deleting correspondence in VKontakte may be necessary for various reasons: to hide the conversation from prying eyes or to clear the chat from too many messages. Depending on the device, the deletion process may be slightly different.

On a PC or laptop:

1. To delete a message, select it by right-clicking on it.
2. Then click on the urn icon at the top of the screen.
3. You will be presented with two deletion options:
   • “For All” - the message will be deleted from the chat for all participants.
   • “For yourself only” - the message will remain with other chat participants, but will disappear from you.
4. To delete the entire dialog, move the cursor to the upper left corner of the chat window and select the “Clear dialog” option from the drop-down menu.

On mobile devices (smartphones, tablets):

1. Swipe your finger across the correspondence from right to left.
2. Touch “Delete” or “Exit”.
3. Select “Clear history” or “Sign out and delete conversation”.
4. You must sign out of the conversation before deleting to prevent new messages from being received.

Messages can be restored, but only until the first refresh of the conversation page.

Important: The “Delete for Everyone” feature is only available for the first 24 hours after writing a message and only for your own messages. After that, you can only delete messages from yourself.
